The Amazing Spider-Man #796 was written by Dan Slott & Christos Gage with art by Mike Hawthorne, Terry Pallot, Cam Smith, Erik Arciniega, and Alex Ross.
Dan Slott’s final Spider-story is is picking up steam as we get closer to its conclusion in issue #800! First off, Agent Anti-Venom has taken up residence in NYC and he’s instantly more well liked than our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Liz Allen, CEO of Alchemax, has figured out that Agent Anti-Venom is secretly Flash Thompson and asks him to provide extra security for demonstration of some new technology that her company is unveiling later that day. Peter goes along since he’s covering science news for the Bugle now. Mary Jane Watson is there because she’s basically running Stark Industries since Tony Stark has been in a coma. Also everyone is there because the event will have gourmet catering.
It turns out to be a good thing that all this extra muscle is around because Alchemax is showcasing a method they’ve developed for extracting energy from the large amount of highly explosive tritium they recently got their hands on. Goblin King (Phil Urich) and a few of his cronies show up to steal it. They nearly get away with it thanks to Goblin King’s sonic scream, but J. Jonah Jameson calls and starts shouting & blaring big band music loud enough to drown it out.
One desperation superkick to the throat later and Goblin King only gets away with a tiny piece of the tritium. MJ covers for Peter disappearing and even picks up his street clothes, which he swings by her place to pick up later. He offers to take her out to dinner as a thank you, but she suggests that they stay in for dinner instead. Hmmmmmm…..
Meanwhile, Norman Osborn, after killing his two assistants, has established more control over the Carnage symbiote. He convinces it to remove all the nanites from his from his bloodstream that had made him immune to his goblin formula. To put it mildly, that’s not good.
