Riverdale – “Chapter Twenty-Six: The Tell-Tale Heart”

We last left the plucky kids from Riverdale in quite a bit of trouble.  Betty returned home from an intimate time with Jughead to find her mom cleaning up blood from a dead body in the house.  Archie was lying to Agent Adams about having no idea about why Hiram would want Papa Poutine dead.  So, big question, what are the Coopers going to do with the body?  Who is this person anyways?  Also, how much is Agent Adams going to increase the pressure on Archie, because surely he knows that Archie is lying to him.

Riverdale – “Chapter Twenty-five: The Wicked and the Devine”

Where, oh where, did we leave off with those pesky kids from Riverdale?  Well, Archie had just earned the respect of Hiram Lodge by beating someone above him in weight classes in a wrestling match during tryouts, though wrestling doesn’t come up at all during the episode.  Jughead has opened the proverbial can of worms by exposing the sins of town founder General Pickens.  Betty had discovered Chic’s dark side, and was wanting help to get in touch with hers.

Riverdale – “Chapter Twenty-Four: The Wrestler”

We last left these intrepid kids of Riverdale with Archie trying to spy on the shady dealings of the Lodges, Betty bringing in her creepy brother, and Jughead defiantly keeping the Serpents alive at Riverdale High School.  In this episode, will Archie continue to make absolutely terrible decisions?  Will Hal, the most terrible of the Coopers, also be the only sane one?  Will Jughead go one crusade too far?

Riverdale – “Chapter Twenty-Three: The Blackboard Jungle”

Riverdale returns from its mid-season break.  We last left this brooding band of high schoolers with Jughead becoming a full member of the Serpents, Veronica wanting a role in the family business, and Betty and Archie thinking that they had killed the Black Hood Killer.  Being that it was the mid-season finale, I had my doubts that they had really gotten the killer. Riverdale Pilot Review

Let me start out by saying that I have never, ever read an Archie comic book before.  I have no idea what is contained within those pages.  I was always under the impression that Archie was a pretty lighthearted series, but have not seen any real evidence of that.  Sure, I am aware of the characters.  Could easily recognize them as they debuted in the show, but did not have any base of characterization to judge what I was seeing.

Adding to this lack of knowledge about the source material, I did not watch any previews for Riverdale.  So, I really had no idea what I was in for when I started this episode.  I give this info because I think context is important with reviews.  Someone that is an avid Archie fan may have a different opinion about this episode than myself.  But for myself, I was pretty surprised by what I saw.  Spoilers ahead.  (more…)

Archie Meets Who???

I don’t follow Archie comics, so I don’t really know what’s going on in the series.  But when I saw the below cover for the upcoming issue, it scared the bejeezus out of me. Apparently, this is part 4 of the story, which also includes Sabrina, the teenage which.  So, if I really wanted to, I could likely look up the story, but I’d rather think about what I want the story to be.  Personally, I’m hoping it’s a “Quantum Leap” type story, in which Archie and the gang possess the body of the band members in order to right some kind of wrong.  This would open up a few stories, other than the main focus.  Like, how would Archie handle all of the groupies that are trying to get in his knickers?  Or, how would the two females react to being in a male body?
